For years, my favorite book was Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse. It's a fabulous tale of coming of age in India, of awareness and enlightenment, of love, and of acceptance of the world and the individual's place in it. I first read it when I was 18 and then ravenously read everything I could find by the same author. The funny thing is, when I re-read the book now it does not impact me in the same way. Is that strange, that something so important at one age is not so important at another?
What is your favorite book and why?
How do you think you'll respond to it in 20 years?

my all time favorite book will be the outsiders. the reason why i say the outsiders is because i love how the greasers stick up for each other they are like family. my favorite character is ponyboy. the why i say ponyboy is because to me i can relate to him in a way.
ReplyDeleteand in 20 years my response to the outsiders will be this is one of t he greatest books ever written in my opinion. and i will be able to tell you what happen in each chapter every little detail.

ReplyDeleteIt can be strange, but you also have to keep in mind the fact that based on age and surrounding circumstances in your life at that point in time has alot to do with what u will and will not relate to. Thought u might have found the book more interesting in the past, different situations, circumstances and experiences in life can change your perspective on different areas and change the significance of different matters over time which in turn would change interest levels on various things.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is The Partner by John Grisham. This is my favorite book for the reason that it pertains to the Law field and because this is one of the reasons I became interested in Law. The way the lawyers live in this story, without financial concern or worry. Living lavishly in luxury with respectable careers. I believe in 20 years the book will not interest me so much because I will be a high profile attorney if not running my own firm, and my life would be more interesting than the book.
My favorite book is The Diary of Anne Frank because it explains in vivid details of what it was like day by day to live during the Holocaust. Anne shared her most inner thoughts and secrets. She also discussed every moment that they spent living in a little room to hide out, hoping they would not be found. It just put the reality of what happened during the Holocaust in perspective.
ReplyDeleteIn 20 years, I will still be somewhat disappointed about the stress they had to go through just because they did not live up to the standards of someone else.In a way that same situation is going on in America everyday. The Holocaust and other situations similiar to this will still have an affect on me in the future.
My favorite book would be Lord of the Flies, because the story has many suprising events. One which where several boys were starnded in an island after their plane crashed. The book had a dramatic background where the boys were to survive until they see passing boats near the island. What interest me the most about the book was the suspence, climax, and the ending.
ReplyDeleteIn 20 years, my response with the book would be similar to when I first read the book, that it was full of details and describes the difficulties they had to go through.
This is very sad to say but read books while i was in school and that was ten years ago i cant even remember what required books they were. Two years ago my best friend introduced me to the Twilight books, so I then decided to give reading a book a shot, and I fell in love with that book and the others that followed. I would say that this book opened my eyes to another world, a world where words mean so much more then seeing the picture, i have reread this book and it still draws me in every time!In 20 years I think I will respond just the same because this book introduced me to the enjoyment of reading.

ReplyDeleteSpeaking about the "age", seeing as the time in age has nothing to do with our time, it may or may not be as important to you. If it was something that would reflect on you and have a significance to something regarding you, then it may come to be more interesting to you.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is this book called "Crank", by: "Ellen Hopkins. I like it because, first of all, it is in poetic form and you really have to think about what is being said to understand fully what she is talking about. The book is about a girl whom ends up living with her dad for some time and ends up meeting a guy(one of her neighbors in her dads apartment complex), who introduces her to different "drugs", etc. that she has never experienced before. She ends up getting mixed into the wrong crowd and things just go down from there. What draws my attention to it is the fact that, sadly, I can relate to this book. Many of my family members as well as a few friends, have gone through the same exact thing that she did in the book. It helps me to learn from the mistakes of others, not to do those things myself. Although, I have made a few in my life; I know not to go to the same extent that others have.
In twenty years, I can see me feeling the same exact way about my response towards this. I feel that it will affect me the same way as it does now
I don't think it's strange. I think as we grow up, stories become more or less relevant depending on what stage in life we are in. My all time favorite book has to be The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. I was first introduced to this book my sophomore year in high school as a required book we had to read during our summer break. I didn't read it nor cared for it. Then the next year, i read it, and wow it just scared the living... out of me. I kept thinking about Ebola Virus entering the vents and so on. Then i re-read it some years after high school and still got the same effect, just didn't stay up at night worried or scared about what i am breathing in. The details to describe how Ebola effected the body, how it is so deadly and yet so unknown to the public, and to have it reached in the States was just jaw dropping. I will probably, well hopefully, have much more respect for the story behind it as i get older and persue the medical field further as my career choice...i guess i will have to wait and see
ReplyDeletei dont exactly have a favorite book but a series of books by ellin hopkins the books are titled crank, impulse burned identical glass and tricks. i first came upon "crank" my junior year in high school and i had never really been a bug fan of reading but a friend of mine assured me that i would like the book and she was more than right. i couldnt put the book down. her style of writing is something that i have never seen. she in a way writes in a poem style but she is still telling a full story. in her stories she talks about life problem that anybody could go threw, life love pain drugs sex religion most of the stuff that people are afraid to talk about but the way she goes into depth and the discriptive language she uses you can alwyas find a way to relate.and there is always a lesson to be learned.
ReplyDeleteAnd in 20 years i definatly think that i will see these books different but not in either a negitive or a positive way just but maybe see the other side the more mature side i guess you could say but i think that i would want my kids to read them just to see what they think and what they could learn from them
I do not think that I have any one favorite book. I don't read much and when I do it is usually required reading. One book that I read latley that I thought was interesting was The Revolution by Ron Paul. I do not agree with all his views but he presents some very interesting arguements that made me think.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe I will feel the same if I read this book 20 years from now, however it would be interesting to compare the author's ideas to future American politics.
My favorite book that i read was Bailout Nations by Barry Ritholtz. I had to read this book for my political science class last semester it helps you understand what happend on wall street. Also the credit debacle of 2008. I probably wont read this book any different or think any different of it because it is something that really happed and isnt going to change.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I started reading the book when I was a kid, because I loved the movie. But if you have read the book, you know that the introduction is the hardest thing to get through. It is my favorite book, because it had such an impact on my life and moral compass. I honestly believe that To Kill A Mockingbird will still be my favorite book in twenty years, because it is a book that I will encourage my children to read someday.
ReplyDeletemy favorite book is holes by Louis Sachar. i read this book when i was elementry school before the movie came out. i think its my favorite book becuase or the situation the main charater gets himself into and the story line is also great. i think in 20 years if i were to read this book i would still like it and would bring back good memories
ReplyDeletemy favorite book was harry potter and the chamber of secrets..i really liked it because i never heard of a book with these kids in school all have powers..
ReplyDeletein 20 years i think i wont find it to be my favorite book because ill read more books and sooner than later kids in school waving wands won't be as effective on me anymore
That's it for week one. This was a good start. Be sure to check back every day and to keep blogging!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book I have read is called Ezperansa Raising.I like this book because it brings me a lot of memmories of my parents childhood of all the stories they had told me. If I were to read this book in 20 years I will probably respond the same way i did when I first read this book.
ReplyDeleteMY favorite book was an autobiography of Johnny Cochran. It was my favorite book because I am in school to be a lawyer and he is the person that I look up to the most and I honestly want to be just like him. I read his cases in his books alot of the time if it has something to do with my class. I know in 20 years when I run into certain situation I can refer to the book and see how he handled things.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite book was The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. We had a bunch of books to read my junior year in high school and I found this one to be the best mainly because of all the symbolism it had in it. The Scarlett Letter talked about all the Salem witch trails that were held. What kept me flipping the page is that it had a lot of controversy in it. I'm positive that in 20 years I'll still like this book even though I read it when I was 16 years old.
ReplyDeleteTesting Testing: This is Heidi.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite series is Phillipa Gregory's Tudor Series, a historical fiction based on Henry Vll, and his daughter's time period. The Other Boleyn Girl, was the first of the series, written in the perspective of Anne Boleyn's sister, Mary. The story starts when Mary first becomes the King's Mistress and ends with her sister's inevitable beheading.
Other parts of her series, like the Boleyn Inheritance, and The Virgin's Lover, could be read as separate books. Each being narrated by either one woman or women.
Twenty years from now, I will probably roll my eyes at my past self's love for court scandal and government corruption, but until then, I will indulge myself.
i really dont have a favorite book, but i like the books of vampires. I like them because they are so interesting to me. if i could be one of them i would totaly would.
ReplyDeletei really dont think im the reading type but i have realized that whenever i pick up a book that captures my attention i can not put it down until i read it all. although i dont usually read for fun i think i truly enjoy it more than i know. therefore my favorite book would have to be "the giving tree"-shel silverstein. yes its a kids book with very few words but the story told by the images is very sweet. (:
